Valentine's Day is on 14 Feb. This is a day which is remarked for the celebration of the sweet taste of being in love. The origin of Valentine's Day dates back to the story of the priest St. Valentine in the 3rd century AD. In the time of St. Valentine, the kingdom was ruled by and Emperor named Claudius the second. The emperor posed strict actions on the legalities of marriage and even banned marriage as married men were thought to be weak soldiers. So in solution to this problem St. Valentine aligned the occurrence of secret marriages. But he soon was imprisoned and sentenced to death. But during his time in prison, St. Valentine fell in love with a jailer’s daughter and sent love letters to her bearing a signature “from your Valentine” on 14th February. This same day he was executed.
The importance of gifts only came later in the 18th century when people started sending flowers, cards and other sweets to their loved ones. As time went on, the handwritten cards were replaced by printed cards. Today, everywhere people exchange cards to one another as a token and sign of love.
