Girlfriend responds savagely as boyfriend 'ruins' heartfelt proposal - by pretending it never happened!

Go on, admit it. Even if you are the most hardened cynic or allergic to monogamy, you're probably not immune to a particularly romantic and thoughtful engagement story.

Amongst the constant bad news we hear and the daily grind of our humdrum lives, they're the closest thing we have to fairytales.

It doesn't have to be anything extravagant or costly, just something well thought through and uplifting.

But while most people would hate for their other half to put themselves out of pocket and get stressed out with a hugely OTT proposal, it's a bit of a deal-breakerfor others.

Like Redditor Logan, who didn't quite meet his girlfriend's expectations. Taking to Reddit , he describes what happens when you get someone else - and what they want - all wrong.

As some background, Logan and Taylor have been together for over two years. They have a good relationship, he loves her very much, and he wanted to propose.

So far, so good.

But Taylor has some very detailed specifications about proposals.

"She always liked those super fancy, extravagant proposals where everyone is watching and being awed by how beautiful it is," Logan explains.

"Although she likes to live a lavish lifestyle (nothing wrong with it, she can afford it herself), she never really mentioned marriage. Until her friends started to get engaged."

After Taylor's best friend had a "dream-like Instagram proposal" at a French castle complete with a professional engagement photo-shoot, Taylor's interest in getting married got stronger. A lot stronger.

"She talked about the ring, the locations, the photographers, what she would be wearing and it's driving me crazy.

Eventually Logan decided to ask her to marry him, but explained, "I wanted it to be something memorable, but at the same time it's MY proposal too.

"We were planning on going to Europe and we did, we had a great time but I didn't propose because if I did, it would probably be on the top of the Eiffel Tower - and no thanks."

Not a fan of public proposals, the pressure which accompany them on top of already-busy lives in LA, Logan decided to take Taylor to a small town in the South where they had nature, the sound of waves crashing and just getting away from the city life was a good thing."I didn't hire any photographers because it wasn't worth it. The proposal itself was just about marrying her. Being with her. And I DID buy her the ring she wanted. She was very annoyed. She looked at me and said, 'This is a horrible joke, Logan' then she started crying because I 'ruined it' for her. Then she pretended the proposal didn't happen and now she's still talking about rings like I DIDN'T PROPOSE."

Logan finished his heartfelt post saying, "I love her, but I don't know if I'm being a jerk by not meeting her expectations - or if she's being awful."

Whether it's a deeper incompatibility or just mismatched expectations remains to be seen.
