Yes, it took 17 long years to complete the world's longest tunnel in Switzerland. This wonderful tunnel is named as "Gothard Base Tunnel" which was opened with a grand ceremony on 31st May, 2016. This was priorly planned and designed in 1947 but started its construction since last 17 years.

 The Gothard Base Tunnel, breaks through the mountains under 2.3 Km of daylight and within the rocks which have a burning temperature of 46 degree Celsius(114 degree F). This wonderful miraculous construction of engineers is designed in such way that it cannot even be thought of a rust for more 10 decades. The tunnel is actually called as 'The World's Longest Tunnel' because it is almost 57 Km long which is unbeatable by any.

The masterpiece remains as a greater part of the Swiss Identity which allows all 65 passenger and 260 freight rails to pass over the tunnel once it completes the test run which is held this whole year. The main aim and objective of this construction is to save time and money of the passengers. The high speed trains are also designed to pass over and will flew the passengers passing the whole 57 Km of tunnel in just 17 minutes.
