Dubai is a rare gem in this world and has created  a name for itself in the domain of luxury. You will see such unbelievable things in Dubai which you will definitely not find anywhere else. Dubai is known for its largest, tallest and biggest man- made structure - the Burj Khalifa; the world's only 7-star hotel - Burj al Arab; the largest mall in the world - the Dubai Mall; the largest water canon show in the world - Dubai Mall; the largest gold ring in the world - the Gold Souq in Dubai; world's largest shoe store - the shoe district (Dubai Mall) etc.
Talking of luxury, Dubai is the only place where super car traffic jams occur. Cops are seen boasting and travelling in Lamborghini. Amazingly ferocious scenes are very common in Dubai. You can see tiger or lion as co-drivers, hanging out of windows. Pets are also given exotic snacks and carried by their owners where ever they go. Dubai is also known for its exotic food, hotels and lifestyle.
Due to luxury life in Dubai, people buy cellphones worth more than their houses. Also, it is only in Dubai that you get to withdraw gold bars from an ATM machine. Sports field like tennis courts are made off the ground with wonderful view of the ocean.
Dubai has become so used to to the luxurious life that they are ready to pay any cost for it and don't want to live without it. For them, luxury is a more readily accepted lifestyle which only amuses a tourist, not them. Luxury is not an option but a lifestyle for them. It is only in Dubai that all that you thought is the best is not the best (at least not for  the Dubai citizens).
