The Solitary Shepherd : Chinese man lives alone in abandoned village for a decade

This story is a recent shocking discovery by few travellers in China. It is so strange that it definitely had to reach the media and go viral.

We all crave for some privacy in our lives at times, but how Lui Shengjia has been living, is a out of the world privacy level.

From time to time, most of us crave a little solitude in our lives, but not likely to the extent of Lui Shengjia’s lifestyle for the past decade.

In 2006, 20 families occupied the village of Xuenshanshe in China, but as people passed away from old age, and others moved due to the decline of natural resources, all but three people remained in the area – Mr Shengjia, his elderly mother and his unwell brother. Within a year, both his mother and brother had also passed away, leaving him alone in the village.

In 2006, 20 families occupied the village of Xuenshanshe in China, but as people passed away from old age, and others moved due to the decline of natural resources, all but three people remained in the village - Mr.Shengjia, his elderly mother and his sick brother. Within a span of a year, both his mother and brother passed away leaving him alone, and the only person in the village. "In the beginning, I wasn't able to sleep at night while listening to the howling of the wild dogs. But after I started to tend a few sheep, they have become my companions and I slowly got used to living alone", Mr.Shengjia reportedly said when asked about how his unbelievable experience was.

Mr Shengjia does a part-time job with the forestry department's forest protection agency and earns 700 yuan ( $143) a month. This requires him to do yearn hard, take long walks to water holes and to a distant village to buy food. Seems that it gets very lonely at times. "Surviving here is not a problem for me", he firmly says. "But I will move to a more populous location when time comes"

Well, Mr.Shengjia, a decade is a very long time to survive like that. Salute to your self-dependency and courage. We believe you have come to like your own company but we would love to see you happy with people around you one day. What do you think of this brave man's story?
