the crackers which wont burst but stink

Great pieces of celluloid art get immortalized and are relevant with future trends and prevalent with the tastes of the future generation. Iconic and epic movies define a certain milestone after which all the movies in a way follow the same trend and that way good movies get preserved for time immemorial. However, the only good reason why Karan Johar’s upcoming Diwali flick “Ae dil hai mushkil” will be remembered for is that it made positive space for sons of industry giants who are aspiring actors. Otherwise the movie is going to be a shitload of crap like all the previous movies directed by Karan Johar for example “student of the year” which in no way is in touch with reality.

If you look at the trailer and music videos (which is beautiful on the musicians part) you can easily make out about the story because on an average 4 to 5 movies of exactly the same kind are released every year which might be good from the perspective of a common genera but have become stingingly putrid based on the frequency of their appearances. You don’t have to look that closely and instead you can mute the volume. You will still realize that the story consists of 4 very beautiful and good looking individuals located in the most beautiful locations around the earth with probably the most beautiful jobs (one is a dj one is a poet one seems to be a singer so the last obviously won’t be a stripper) are struck with the grief which outreaches all kinds of grief in the world. And to add to the equation that sorrow is the sorrow of unable to make a decision regarding which person you ought to bone for life. People you see around will cry because they are unable to get married, an elevated form of sorrow that gifted people experience which comes with the failure of making a choice regarding whom to love and whom not to love.

All new age romantic movies have four signature songs which are released before the movie and the music video of those 4 signature songs give away the whole plot because that’s formula. First song is which features the Romeo falling in a crush. Then the second song which is a happy song where they attain their love and are showing dancing and playing in their own utopian worlds. Then there is a breakup song which used to be emotional but sometimes appears as a celebration gimmick too as seen in this case or love aaj kal. Finally there is a really emotional song right at the climax of an unwanted marriage. Oh yeah and midway there is another song dictating the same emotion of a crush except that it is a new crush so as to introduce the love triangle (quadrilateral in this case). The final song is kept a secret until release because that would literally give away the plot.

Plus if you notice closely, all stories are based in less hostile locations which is possible only in the west which is again a plot convenience because if you go around messing with a sexy chick in hot pants on Indian street then it is almost impossible not to encounter an awkward situation where you are not greeting with creativity of obnoxious and derogatory comments in response to which you will have to add a surreal Bollywood style fight scene which would kill all the realism which a love story needs to have.
