Sarbjit Movie Reviews: NOT WHAT WAS EXPECTED!

The high expectations were not met by Randeep Hooda and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Sarbjit directed by Omung Kumar. As the movie reviews rolled out on its release it got evident that the movie failed to please the critics. Their reviews – India Today: 1.5/5 saying “… Sarbjit is a screechy, mawkish melodrama” and NDTV: 2/5 saying “… a well meaning outing that fails to do justice to its subject.” Only Mid-day seems to have critically acclaim the movie noting Randeep Hooda’s iconic performance rating it a 3/5 saying: “… a memorable performance by Randeep” hence, saving the movie from acute degeneration. This comes even after IMDB has currently rated it 7.9/10 but still since IMDB’s rating system is complex and is based on an average of many reviews, which will increase as time goes by, the ratings may fall down.

The film is a biopic of Sarabjit Singh, a farmer residing at Bhikiwind, Punjab, near the Indo-Pak border who one night crossed the border after having a couple of drinks. When discovered in Pakistan he is mistaken to be an Indian spy and gets sentenced to capital punishment in the country of Pakistan which still remains a hostile country for India. The story revolves around the quest of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who wants to save him and get him released so that he may get back at home.
