Rightly claimed the quote of being ‘the most controversial movie of this year’, Udta Punjab finally got released today and what critics realized is that the fuss it created matches the quality of its content as well.
Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor starrer, after struggling through torrents of hurdles, ranging from mass censorship to online leak, got a green light from the CBFC which was backed by the High Court of two different states.
The reviews by critics doesn’t come as a shock as the film had already laid strong base with its controversial topic that it covers, which revolves around the abundance of drug intake problem of Punjab.
Hindustan Times wrote that “the film has its heart at the right place” while giving it a rating of 3.5/5. And Times of India said “Udta Punjab gives you a ‘SUBSTANTIAL’ high.” While rating it a whopping 4/5. The Indian Express doesn’t lies far behind as it praised the movie by saying that the movie is “worth all the fuss” and gave it a 3/5.
The perfection of the movie doesn’t only come because of the topic but it is lavished by stunning performances by Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. The Times of India praised Alia’s performance by saying that she stole the show.
