2016 is almost over and people are already excited for movies releasing in 2017. One such movie for which people are excited is Jolly LLB 2 starring Akshay Kumar and Huma Qureshi. The movie is basically a Hindi courtroom comedy drama written and directed by Subhash Kapoor. The first Jolly LLB movie came out in March 2013, with Arshad Warsi playing the role of Jagdish Tyagi a.k.a Jolly who has just started his career as a lawyer and moves to Delhi to try out his luck. In Delhi, he comes across a prominent criminal lawyer Tejinder Pal played by Boman Irani who is defending his client Rahul Dewan who is accused of causing death under the influence of alcohol. Since the client is from a rich family, he is able to use his power and money to get an acquittal. Jolly desperate for money and fame, decides to pursue the case and files a PIL in the court against Dewan’s acquittal, starting his journey against the judicial corruption and the monopolistic behaviour of the rich.
The storyline of the first movie is inspired by the 1999 hit-and-run case of Sanjeev Nanda and there is also a minor essence of Priyadarshini Mattoo case. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and Saurabh Shukla won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. Although the trailer of the movie didn’t make much of an impact on the audience, but the movie had an amazing reception. Critics like Taran Adarsh and Anupama Chopra gave it 3.5 stars and 3 stars respectively. Jolly LLB has also been remade into Tamil as Manithan.
Now in 2017 the audience will get to see the sequel to Jolly LLB. Jolly LLB 2 which has again been written and Directed by Subhash Kapoor, is a movie which many people are excited to watch. Although no trailer has been released yet for the movie, people are mainly excited to see Akshay Kumar playing the role of a lawyer. We have seen Akshay play different roles in various movies like a solidier in Holiday, God in Oh My God, Secret Agent in Baby and Naval Officer in Rustom. The most important question is will Akshay Kumar be able to do full justice to the role of a Lawyer. Another question that comes to everyone’s mind is, “Where is Arshad Warsi?”
So let me tell you that Arshwad Warsi will be seen in a cameo as Jagdish Tyagi a.k.a Jolly alongside Saurabh Shukla as Justice Surendralal Tyagi. So if Arshad is still Jolly then what is the name of Akshay Kumar’s character? Well for that we’ll have to wait till 10th February 2017 when the movie releases. Also Annu Kapoor will be seen as the rival lawyer against Akshay Kumar in the film. Apparently Arshad Warsi was dropped from the movie because his last few movies haven’t performed well on the box office and the producers were sceptical about casting Arshad once again. The producers wanted a bigger star to replace Arshad Warsi and who better than the “Khiladi” himself.
Jolly LLB 2 went on the floors in July 2016 and has been mainly shot in Lucknow. A few parts of the movie have also been shot in Varanasi and Kashmir. The previous movie was inspired from the Sanjeev Nanda hit and run case of 1999, but the storyline for this movie has been kept a secret. But since the Khiladi of Hindi Film Industry is in this movie, it can be assured that this movie will definitely have a great story and it will make a big social impact.
