May You Stay Healthy Through This Winter

Winter is here and those cosy-blanket-with-hot-chocolate days are back. And like  every season brings change in your  energy levels, metabolism, and food, so is winter.

As the temperature drops don’t turn to chocolate, cheese, and creamy soup to warm your belly. Rather go for these superfoods

Cabbage: This is the super-healthy and budget-friendly vegetable. Loaded with Vitamins C and K, folate, fiber, antioxidants, and anti-carcinogenic compounds. In fact cabbage can even reduce cholesterol and lower risk of cancer and diabetes.

Oatmeal: Oats are a whole grain, giving you the dose of fiber and plant-based protein. And when that's not enough 3 grams a day of the beta-glucan in oats also reduce your bad cholesterol levels by 5 to 10%, whether they start out normal or high. Adding dry fruits and fruits as the toppings makes it more nutritional.

Dark Chocolate: Adding a little dark chocolate to your diet is a great health booster. It contains flavonoids which reduce the damage caused by free radicals, potential instigators of cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Pomegranate: Apart from keeping our heart in the pink, it is rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. This fruit improves blood flow to the heart in people with myocardial ischemia, a serious condition in which the heart’s oxygen supply is compromised because the arteries leading to it are blocked.

Walnuts: Though they are healthy at any time in the season, but they are best for winter. Walnuts are rich in alpha-linolenic acid, omega-3 fat which boosts heart health.

Apple: The fruit packs soluble and insoluble fiber. One slows digestion and the other helps food pass through your system more smoothly. That means less hunger! They are made up of nearly 86% water, keeping you hydrated.

Sweet Potatoes: Sweet potatoes are high in vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, fiber, beta-carotene, potassium, and iron. The phytochemicals in them block carcinogens from acting on your body's tissues.

Carrot: All this while you ate carrot to keep your eye healthy but it is one of the superfoods recommended during the winter season. It is loaded with the antioxidant beta-carotene that converts to vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A is essential for a strong immune system, healthy skin, and mucus membranes.
