Our country is no doubt developing in all ways, even in the medical sector. The advancements in the medical sector are worth praising. Instruments that apply energy to cut, coagulate and dissect tissue with minimal bleeding facilitate surgery. The improper use of energy devices may increase patient morbidity and mortality. The CME which was recently organized by the Department of General Surgery of Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute on 6th July 2019 at Hotel Radisson Blu on the role of Energy sources in General, Advanced, Surgical and Gynecologic Procedures open as well as Laparoscopic. The talk was delivered by the Sr. Consultants Dr. Subhash Aggarwal- General Surgery and MAS & Dr. Atul Goswami- Sr. Consultant- Urologist of Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute with Dr Rana AK Singh HOD- General Surgery & Kidney Trasplant, RML & Dr Chandera Mansukhani- Sr.Consultant - Gynecology,Ganga Ram Hospital.
The CME program threw light onto some of the main aspects like Role of Ultrasonic Energy in Surgery, role of vessel sealer in surgery, role of laser in surgery, role of electro surgery in surgery and was then followed by dinner and intense discussion on the mentioned topics.
The CME was extremely enlightening and came to a conclusion that the performance of the energy devices depends upon the type of procedure. There is no consensus as to which device is optimal for a given procedure. The technical skill level of the surgeon and the knowledge about the devices are both important factors in deciding safe outcomes. As new energy devices enter the market increases, surgeons should be aware of their indicated use in laparoscopic, endoscopic and open surgery.
The whole session was an extremely interventional one where all the great minds discussed upon the use of energy resources to be used in the General, Advanced, Surgical and Gynecologic Procedures open as well as Laparoscopic.
