For working professionals, lunch is an all-important thing even though there’s no chance of its being a wholesome as it meant to be. For all of us who start work from the morning hours itself, the thought of the lunchtime provides a welcome distraction after a busy morning’s worth of work. It consumes the mind when hunger strikes; we start thinking about it. Even the approach of lunch hours, be it for half hour or more, starts working on our mind. And if we have a lunch group who always sit together, lunch is more than just a meal- it becomes a ritual, a sacred process that we go through with our family within the office. As working professionals know, the lunch hour is sacrosanct, an important aspect of our working day.
However, for some, lunch is a luxury which is not always treated with seriousness. They seem to utilize the time for other, more pressing things taking it to be a chance to catch up with pending work.While the quintessential Indian mother still thrives on cooking a home-cooked meal, packing it up in a tightly sealed lunch- box and sending it with her child, Mumbai’s famous 'dabbawallas' also play a key role in transporting a hot lunch from home to desk. However, in many cases, even a lunch as this can prove to be slightly impractical if one finds to grab even few minutes for lunch. In such case, a reasonable approach would be to have sandwiches, rolls or simply salads.
The common saying goes ‘Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper’. While we may agree with the breakfast bit, it is advisable to be slightly more circumspect with lunch. A heavy lunch will only cause to feel drowsy resulting in loss of energy. Eating a light lunch, like a salad or sandwich will take the edge off hunger while letting us remain alert. Eating vegetarian food is lighter and takes less time to digest than non-vegetarian food.It is quite possible that eating a simple salad or sandwich for lunch may make one feel hungry by late afternoon. The easiest way to quell those rumblings in the stomach is by eating a quick, healthy snack.A big bowl of salad for lunch can do wonders for complexion and helps to lose weight too! Similarly a well prepared sandwich with proper ingredients does a lot to health as well.
