Don’t you miss those days, down the years, when you and your friends played cricket, badminton or basketball in the evenings?
Making those cheers, noises with each goal or wicket, fighting over cheating done, that palm out or in to find the chaser, or turn-giver.
Reaching home panting and sweating from top to bottom. Having evening milk shakes and snacks in the end and planning the game for the next day all together!
However, gone are such days for today we see young boys engaged with virtual players, when they can make real players out in their street.
They are busy with play station, sitting in front of those LED screens, eye brows furrowed, with remotes in hand and mind apparently hypnotised by the game. They have become totally what we call an indoor –person.
The memories which can be woven by enjoying the real essence of childhood lies unparallel to what one gets from the artificial set-up of gaming.
It is scientifically proven that playing outdoors brings sharp vision, provides Vitamin D, improves the social development of the child, reduces stress and increases the attention span. While the sedentary lifestyle brought by these digital artificial gaming gadgets are an invite to obesity, loneliness, headaches, backaches, eyestrain and carpal tunnel syndrome--pain and numbness that your child may feel in his wrists, hands, shoulders and elbows.
While one set of studies reveals that playing video games can cause insomnia because of over – exhaustion of mind, other set reveals that children stay much happier and healthier when they play outdoor. It helps them resist nature deficit order.
Having play stations or other gadgets today has become a status symbol, a reason to flaunt, making parents helpless and succumb to their child’s demand. But a seed sown wrong shall never reap, a decision taken wrong shall never let happiness sweep across your life.
Be a sport, don’t shame over not playing trendy indoor digital games, set examples because in the end you are the sufferer as well as the opportunist of you own deeds and decesions!
Childhood is a song that is cherished for long, don’t let your childhood be a slave to the technologies, de-socialising you, be a lion of your own den, to act wise and in a way that it brings health and prosperity to you.
