THIS TOWN WITHOUT STREETS AND POLLUTION WILL ENCHANT YOU!

For anyone dreaming of a simple life, you may want to consider moving to Giethoorn, Netherlands.

If you ever want to get away from city life and find peace in a beautiful place, the perfect destination for you is Giethoorn in the Netherlands. Beautiful nature, old houses, ride boats in channels or walk after numerous wooden bridges… Simply, it is a place that offers you relaxation and also to briefly forget the noisy cars, because they are here not welcome, primarily because this tale like place does not have roads.

Giethoorn became known only after 1958, when Dutch director Bert Haanstra here captures his famous comedy “Fanfare”, so this place is now a real tourist attraction.

This idyllic village has no roads, and the only access is by water over the many beautiful canals or on foot over its wooden arch bridges. The locals use punters to get around and cars have to remain outside the village. Located in the province of Overijssel, there are 4 miles of canals and farmhouses with thatched roofs dating back to the 18th century.

This place has about 2,600 citizens who live in homes of their own private islands. About 180 bridges are the only way to arrive to most of the houses, and of course, the second option are the small boats.

During the winter, this place is extremely attractive for fans of ice skating.
