THE SPIRIT OF KITE FLYING

Kite has always been a great way to enjoy ourselves. The spirit of kite flying is enjoyed by flying kites in the sky. Though many people and children nowadays don’t fly kites, but it is still a popular way in India and so in the other parts of the world to enjoy.

According to the available documents kites were invented in China. The kite has been claimed as the invention of the 5th century B.C. Chinese philosophers Mozi & Lu Ban.  By 549 A.D., paper kites were certainly being flown, as it was recorded that, in that year, a paper kite was used as a message for a rescue mission. Ancient and medieval Chinese sources describe that kites are being used for measuring distances testing the wind, lifting men, signalling & communication for military operations. Later tailless kites incorporated a stabilizing bowline. Kites were decorated with mythological motifs and legendary figures.

From China, kites were introduced to Cambodia, India, Japan, Korea & the Western World Kite is one of the cheapest yet, a fun thing which offers enjoyment. Kite is an integral part of various celebrations in India like 15th August & Vishwakarma Puja and in Japan, it is used during Japanese New Year. Many festivals all around the world like Uttarayan, celebrated in Gujarat; Himeji kite festival, celebrated in Japan; Berkley kite festival, celebrated in Berkley, California; Brisbane kite festival, celebrated in Brisbane, Australia; Bristol kite festival, celebrated in Bristol, England; Busan kite festival, celebrated in South Korea; Great lakes kite festival, celebrated in Grand Haven, Michigan; Washington state international kite festival celebrated on Long Beach, Washington; Tiptop kite day, celebrated in New Zeland And Zilker Kite Festival, celebrated in Austin, Texas are solely dedicated to the art of kite flying.

In almost every state of India, kinds are made in workshops. Though, this line of work don’t pay well, many people are associated with this work and their families solely rely on the income which comes from the kite making. There are many different steps to kite making and after a lot of hard work, the kites are produced. Final products are supplied to the retail shops, where there are different types of kites having a range of Rs. 3 to Rs. 60 per piece. Other accessories needed for kite flying are also available in these shops.

Not only is to experience the joy of kite flying, the kite industry also the bread and butter to many families today. We need to keep alive the spirit of kite flying to help in the betterment of these people.
