The city of Kolkata is getting ready for the Durga Pujas as it is the most widely celebrated festival in Kolkata and many other parts of West Bengal too. Well Durga Puja means to the people of the City of Joy to get ready for having a loads of fun. Durga Puja means new clothes, visiting amazing pandals, having fun time with friends and families, eating out and lots of photographs and selfies.
The preparations for this festival starts from a month and half before. All the marketplaces and stores of Kolkata are filled with people, shopping for clothes. You will surely come across a question before puja by friends and family that is “Kota Holo”, which simply means how many new clothes and accessories you have bought this year for puja. The preparation for puja pandals also begin nearly the same time as there are more than 1000 big and small puja pandals around the city, and most them are theme based. Every year, best theme Puja pandals are awarded by different news channels and companies and many big pujas are sponsored by many big companies. So you can surely understand the gravity of this festival in Kolkata.
The Durga Puja officially starts from ‘Sashti’, but nowadays, due to heavy rush, the Puja pandals are open from ‘Panchami’ and few from ‘Chaturthi’ also. The whole city becomes full of light and joy and no matter how early or how late you go out, you will surely find a group of people in Puja Pandals. The people forget about day and night and roam around the city with friends and family to see puja pandals. But no matter how early you start, you can never finish watching all the Puja Pandals of the Kolkata.
This year, the Puja will start from 30th September. Goddess Durga will come for ten days to stay with us. And every person is looking forward to the day in calendar when they can put on their new clothes and start the Pandal hopping with friends, eating out and having lots of fun.
