In an age when there are so many bigger problems to deal with like global warming, increase in population and pollution etc., we Indians are stuck up with issues that don't really deserve too much importance and attention. There are many things that we Indians need to be more liberal about in order to truly bring a change in society. Be the change you want to see. Here are 5 such things which Indians need to chill about and not give a damn.
1. Live-in relationship
The basis of Indian society is marriage and somewhere, it has become a "have to" thing. To survive in this society, we have to get married. There is no choice given for live-in relationship here. Even if someone is a part of one, they are not looked upon with respect and we consider them as "criminals" for not getting married and still living together. Seriously, Change in thinking is required.
2. Virginity
Virginity may not be an important issue for men but definitely it is for women as a woman who has lost her virginity is seen as promiscuous. For men, losing virginity is like a rite of passage to manhood. Pre-marital sex is disgraced and frowned upon here. Indians need to accept that having sex before marriage is absolutely normal and nothing is wrong with it.
3. Career choices
Most of the Indians have herd mentality. If one of their cousin or friend has got admission in good engineering college, then they also decide to do the same. Even the parents tell them to do the same that their cousin or friend is doing or has done. Indians need to start chasing their dream and passion and not settle for something safe and simple. We should not be bounded with limited choices. Instead, we should be allowed to choose want we want to pursue.
4. Sex
Sex: its no big deal. Indians need to be more liberal about topics like sex and should not be conservative about it. Indians don't really prefer to use the word 'sex' in society. Neither parents inform their children about sex education nor school. They wish to keep quiet and ignore such topics because of which, children use immoral methods to acquire information and knowledge regarding sex.
5. How to dress
Right from the childhood, children, especially girls are taught by their family and Society what to wear and what to avoid. These notions and thoughts are embedded in their minds and thinking right from an early age. In India, we seem to be under the notion that the amount of clothes on a person's body is directly proportional to his or her character. Indians need to understand that its completely their choice what to wear and what not to wear.
