An altimeter is one of the most important instruments in an air craft for navigation. This instrument indicates the height of the flying plane from the sea level. The measurement of altitude is called altimetry.This instrument indicates the height of the flying plane from the ground level. The measurementof altitude is called altimetry. An altimeter consists of three needles. The larger needle detects 100 of feet, the medium needle detects 1000 of feet and the smaller needle detects 10000 offeet. The instrument measures the altitude either in yards or in feet.
