“ACTING IS NOT MY CUP OF TEA, WHAT I CAN DO IS JUST DIRECTION”, SAYS ANURAG KASHYAP.

Kudos for Kashyap’s acting in Akira. Getting thumbs up from critics added a feather to his already decorated hat!

The movie director Anurag Kashyap, appeared on the big screen for his negative role in movie Akira and the critics have given a nod for his flawless acting, but the director believes he won’t go miles in acting for direction is his only comfort zone.

He embraced his role of the villainous cop in A R Murugadoss’ film so meticulously that his fans, for a change, now want to see him in front of the cameras. However Anurag believes he is not too fit to be an actor.

Exaggerating the credentials to be an actor, he asserted that he lacks that discipline and patience to be an actor. Staying in costumes for long hours and waiting for the next shot is something against his easy lifestyle habits as a director.

“Moreover acting demands long term commitments. Its not a matter of some time. Making film takes days and months. Who will maintain that haircut, beard or body for four months”, says Anurag Kashyap.

Anurag seems to be a person who lives by his own terms." When I am working as a director, I eat at odd times, I drink, so, when I will get up my face will be tired and dull,” he said. Hinting upon his desire to act, Anurag said,” I would act only if i get enough money in return. If the story is good and the role suits me, I'll would definitely go for acting provided i get obscene amount of money that can solve my other related problems.” Like everybody else Anurag too wanted to be an actor in the beginning, but later he decided to go for direction. Anurag knows theatre well and understands it as an actor’s medium. In the initial years of his struggling period, he even acted in few films as a lead, however very less people knew about it. However owing to the films he has done in past, Anurag acknowledges the art of acting too well. “Had Akira been released in 1993 when I was struggling as an actor, it would have given my career a kick.”, said Anurag Kashyap. However he opined at same time that what he gave in Akira couldn’t have come out 15 years ago. Anurag Kashyap has been a famous director, known for his blockbusters like Bombay Talkies, Udaan, Lunch- Box, Gangs of Vasseypur and many more. He has confined his role to direction and feels comfortable with the camera. While Anurag Kashyap owes a bent on direction, he kept his director side aside while he was acting for Akira. “ If am working as an actor I want my director to trust me, go with me and believe me. A film is made with the conviction of the director,” he said.
