Six Delhi children have moved the National Green Tribunal (NGT) against the industries in West Delhi which are causing air pollution. The NGT has sought responses of the Central and State Government regarding this issue. Notices have been issued to the Union Environment Ministry, Ministry of Urban Development, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Central Pollution Control Board by a bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar.
The plea has been filed by Umesh Kumar (16), Aditi Bhardwaj (12), Abdul Razzaq (12), Harsh Dahiya (15), Prince Lakra (15) and Vivekanand (14) through their guardians seeking directions for an action plan to curb pollution in Mundka and Kirari areas of West Delhi, including changing its land use to a green area. The petition highlights alarming levels of pollution in the above mentioned areas, which is compromising the health and lives of children living in the area.
Supreme Court rules permit minors to file petitions for protection of their fundmental rights through their parents and guardians.
