Strenuous life of a Teen

Well if we ask people about which part of their life is most difficult, various answers will pop up from different sections. The adults will say theirs is and the teens will mention about their own. Being a teen myself, I prefer to vote for the latter. Now, the question may come up in the form of a ‘why’. Today I would like to present few answers.

Most of the times, the adults, mostly our parents and even teachers complain that they fail to understand our kind. Generation gap might be a reason, also changing times is an important problem but the most iconic defense might be that teenagers themselves don’t get their minds completely, so it's difficult for them to make someone else conscious of their problems. There’s the problem of identity crisis you see.

Growing from a cute little child to a glorious mature adult, the human body faces major transitions both physically and mentally. Bodily features makes its way and changes the way we look or we talk, be it the grumpy voice or the breasts, changes happen, suddenly and they confuse these people.

Feelings change and emotions run high when we are teen. Every situation is life or death, accepting things become hard and new emotional experiences and people around us only make things worse. The teenage mind is not unstable but a bit impulsive or intense. So every little thing said or done affects them too much.

The first sparks of attraction or the fluttering first love or low marks in a test or a scolding from parents or a rejection, every single thing is magnified and teenagers tend to react very strongly, which may seem ridiculous at times to the adults who are not teens anymore.

Bullying and peer pressure are some of the problems which teens are advised to face head on, but things can be a bit more complicated when it comes down to practical. Teens have their choice, they could resist or comply but at what cost? They may gain the tag of ‘loser’ or lose something which they hold dear to their life. Sometimes, doing something which your parents won’t probably agree to, gives you the thrill or it could be the ticket to popularity, it can even be something serious like alcohol or drugs. Sometimes doing odd and dangerous tasks made you look ‘badass’ which increases your cool quotient. So its tempting.

‘Alice through the Looking Glass’, well a teen’s life can be ‘Alice’, they are constantly watched by others through social media. The pressure of meeting societal expectations and getting likes on the latest post is most crucial. Along with this the students are suppose perform well in school too. So there is an awful lot of pressure and major need of balance.

Therefore, between bouts of longing privacy and fighting off loneliness, the average teen has to find the right fulcrum of studies and fun, at the same time be a debonair, lot of work right? And they ask why teenage years are stressful.
