Karti Chidambaram, the son of former Union Minister P. Chidambaram got arrested by a team of the Central Bureau Of Investigation’s Economic Offences Wing as soon as he arrived at the Chennai Airport from London on Wednesday morning.
Confirming Karti Chidambaram’s arrest, a CBI official said that the team from Delhi interrogated Karti Chidambaram in connection with the INX Media case and then took him into custody. He was then taken to an undisclosed location for further questioning.
According to reports it is expected that the agency will take him to Delhi after obtaining a transit warrant in the city court.
In the month of May 2017, the CBI registered a case against Mr Karti Chidambaram M/s INX Media (P) Ltd represented by its then directors Indrani Mukherjea and Pritam Mukherjea popularly known as Peter Mukherjea, Chess Management Services (represented through its director Mr. Karti Chidambaram), Advantage Strategic Consultancy (P) Ltd which is represented through its director Padma Vishwanathan and others, besides the unknown officials in the Ministry of Finance on charges of criminal conspiracy, corruption and cheating.
The case involves irregularities in the foreign direct investments amounting to Rs 305 crore in INX Media and INX News.
