The situation has become dire for the Indian fast bowler, the police have charged him with several offences, some are non-bailable ones, those include an attempt to murder, rape, assault and criminal intimidation.
The police had slapped the charges on him on the basis of his wife’s complaint, an FIR was lodged on the basis of Hasin Jahan allegations of Domestic abuse and infidelity. The city police commissioner Rajeev Kumar at Lalbazar has taken in the formal complaint, and Shami was charged with sections 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 307 (attempt to murder), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 328 and 34 of the IPC.
Similar charges were pressed against Shami’s family members, Shami’s mother, Anjuman Ara Begum, sister Sabina Anjum, brother Mohammad Hasib Ahmed and Ahmed’s wife, Shama Parveen. Hasin had said, Everyone in their family used to torture me. His mother and brother used to abuse me. The tortures continued till 2-3 am in the morning. They even wanted to kill me,”
There were several other disturbing claims against Shami made by his wife, she claimed that Shami wanted her to have a relationship of physical sorts with his elder brother. Also, there are allegations of match-fixing on Shami, she claimed that Shami was ready to take money from a Pakistani woman and cheat on his country, “If Mohammed Shami can cheat me then he can cheat the country as well. He accepted money from a Pakistani girl named Alisbah in Dubai. He agreed to accept it on the insistence of England-based Mohammed Bhai. I have proof,” were her original words.
Though Shami had refuted all claims, “I play for the country and I have always given my 100 percent in the games I have been given the chance. I will rather die than cheating my country.” were the lines uttered by him while addressing a Press Conference. Also, he said to ANI that, Hasin (wife) and her family have been saying that we will sit and talk out all issues, but I don’t know who has been misleading her,”
BCCI was quick to take action against the scandalous player, they have cancelled his contract, which is a big blunder for his still building career. Responding to the BCCI actions, he had said "Whatever the BCCI has done, it must have done after giving a lot of thought. I have full faith in the BCCI. It will take the right decision regarding my career,"
