Captain Anupama Kohli saves 261 lives, aborting a mid-air crash between AIR INDIA and VISTARA flights.

Another clever woman saves the day, Air India pilot Anupama Kohli managed to save the life of 261 passengers with her sheer presence of mind and skill. On February 7 two aircraft Vistara's A-320 Neo  travelling from Delhi to Pune carrying 152 passengers and Air India’s Airbus A-319 travelling to Bhopal carrying 109 passengers were using the same Mumbai airspace.

According to the reports there was a bit of confusion between Vistara and ATC, Vistara which was originally flying at 29,000 feet altitude started descending at 27,000 feet where there was Air India’s flight. Both the aircraft were just 100 feet apart and a mid- air crash was inevitable.

Immediately a red alert signal went down in the cockpit of  Captain Anupama Kohli of Air India flight. Amidst all the madness the senior commander of A-320 family heard the RA instructing her to ‘climb’. Using her experience of 20 years Anupama Kohli climbed and steered clear of the Vistara flight forming a safe distance of 600 feet thus aborting the imminent crash.

Anupama Kohli was praised for her wits and for her skilled flying capabilities. She managed to keep calm in a state of catastrophe and was able to rescue the lives of 216 passengers. The passengers on board of both the aircraft owe their lives to her. She became a national hero.

Vistara refused to comment on the incident formally, the crew members of the particular flight continue to maintain that they were just following the orders given by ATC. Investigations are going on, the pilots of A-320 Neo are suspended for now.

All of us salute Anupama Kohli for her bold and excellent work.
